The Permanent Secretary of OHADA, Professor Dorothé SOSSA signs a Partnership Agreement with the President of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce of Paris, Mr. Alexis MOURRE

On June 23, 2016, the premises of the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA), located in Abidjan, capital city of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, hosted the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between OHADA, represented by its Permanent Secretary, Professor Dorothé C. SOSSA, and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce represented by its President, Mr. Alexis MOURRE.

The Agreement reflects the common will of the CCJA and the ICC to work together for the promotion of international arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within the OHADA space. To this end, an annual scientific event on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods will be co-organized by both Courts in an OHADA member country. ICC may also provide trainings to the CCJA staff and admit in its Secretariat trainees from the OHADA space, selected according to agreed terms.

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the ICC and OHADA was accompanied by the first conference on international arbitration jointly organized by the two Institutions, in partnership with the International Union of Lawyers and with the support of the French Arbitration Committee and the Bar Association of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire. Participants seized this opportunity to discuss changes in the OHADA Uniform Act on arbitration law, but also the arbitration ethics from the perspective of the parties, counsels, arbitrators and arbitration institutions.

By signing the Partnership Agreement with the ICC, OHADA makes a step forward in its international cooperation agenda. Indeed, it is worthy of note that several other conventions were previously signed with other Organizations: OHADA / CEMAC Cooperation Agreement, A Memorandum of Understanding establishing a permanent framework for consultation between OHADA and Organizations and Community Institutions producing norms, the Cooperation Agreement between OHADA and the Hague Conference on Private International Law, or the Cooperation Agreement recently signed with the African Organization for Intellectual Property. / -
