On the sidelines of deliberations of the plenary session of the OHADA National Commissions held in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) from 4 to 6 March 2024, delegates visited the Headquarters of the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration and the OHADA Arbitration Centre. They also had the opportunity to visit the new premises under refurbishment, which will house the OHADA Arbitration Centre in a befitting environment with all the necessary amenities.
The various delegations were able to gauge the working conditions of the Court’s staff and appreciate the effective geographical relocation of the Arbitration Centre. This relocation, coupled with the significant progress made by the CCJA’s new Rules of Procedure on arbitration, highlight the gap between the Court’s arbitral and judicial functions, thereby illustrating the rationale behind the establishment of a standalone OHADA Arbitration Centre.
