From 26 to 28 May 2026, OHADA, in partnership with the Bucumi Legal Lab, will organise an international conference under the theme: “Burundi and the Harmonisation of Business Law: “Challenges and Prospects of OHADA Law and Regional Community Laws.”
With the effective participation of Pr Mayatta Ndiaye MBAYE, Permanent Secretary of OHADA, this scientific gathering will bring together over three days in the Burundian capital academics, judges, legal practitioners, experts, representatives of regional institutions, and public decision-makers.
Focusing on current trends in the harmonisation of business law across the African continent and their implications for Member States and partner institutions, the conference will, inter alia, address the following issues:
· the current state and challenges of business law in Burundi ;
· the complementarity between East African Community (EAC) law and OHADA law ;
· the procedures and implications relating to a State’s accession to OHADA ;
· the settlement of commercial disputes within the OHADA area.
The conference will also be marked by the launch of a publication entitled: “Burundi’s Accession to OHADA: Strategic Perspectives and Legal Convergences.”
This event is intended to serve as a platform of reference for reflection and the sharing of experiences in the field of legal and economic integration, while highlighting ongoing dynamics of normative harmonisation at the continental level.
