Launch of the project for the support of the popularization and dissemination of OHADA law in Central Africa

The city of Yaounde hosted on the 21st and 22nd of November 2022, the first round of the series of fourteen (14) workshops and training sessions planned as part of the Project for the support of the popularization and dissemination of OHADA law in Central Africa, supported by the European Union within the framework of the Program for the Support of Regional Integration and Investment in Central Africa (PAIRIAC).

Chaired by H.E. Mr. Salifou ABDOU, ‘’ChargĂ© d’Affaires” of the Republic of Niger, representing for the occasion the President of the Council of Ministers of OHADA, the opening ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Michel Ange ANGOUING, Representative of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals of Cameroon, and H.E. Mr. Philippe VAN DAMME, Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon.

The workshop, entitled “Optimizing Dispute Resolution through ADR”, brought together more than 80 professionals, including many female in-house counsel, attorneys, notaries, bailiffs, magistrates and court clerks, for constructive exchanges during two days. Dedicated to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in general, and to arbitration and mediation in particular, the different modules were jointly facilitated by Professor Henri-DĂ©sirĂ© MODI KOKO, Secretary General of the University of Douala, Dr. Gaston KENFACK DOUAJNI, Director of Legislation at the Ministry of Justice and Dr. Alexis NDZUENKEU, Director of Legal Affairs, Documentation and Communication a.i. of OHADA. The discussions highlighted the fact that ADR and state justice form an inseparable pair in the provision of quality justice. The success of ADR requires that potential prescribers become aware of the many advantages of these forms of contractual justice, and that the state justice system effectively supports their deployment.

The Permanent Secretary of OHADA expresses his deep gratitude to the European Union for its financial support for the organization of the series of training sessions thus inaugurated. He hopes that these dissemination activities will contribute to a better appropriation of OHADA law by its users and to a real development of ADR for a greater benefit of our economies.

The Permanent Secretary,

Prof. Emmanuel Sibidi DARANKOUM
