At its 58th session held in Dakar (Senegal) on 20 February 2025, the OHADA Council of Ministers stood in solidarity with its Member States facing security crises.
It recalled that peace is a fundamental prerequisite for a sound deployment of economic activities, catalyst for economic and social development that OHADA aims to promote. Peace is essential for trade, sustained economic growth and prosperity. Further, economic stability and growing prosperity, widely shared both nationally and internationally, can foster peace.
On the other hand, war and insecurity create a “negative development” environment. They lead to death, disability, disease and displacement. They increase poverty and reduce growth potential by destroying infrastructure, as well as financial and human capital. War and insecurity divert resources into violence, rent-seeking and corruption. They weaken institutions and harm neighbouring countries, particularly through the influx of refugees.
In this respect, OHADA welcomes the considerable efforts made individually and collectively by its Member States to combat security crises, preserve social stability and achieve peace throughout Africa and in the world.
The Council of Ministers calls for a return to peace in Member States plagued by conflict, violence and instability.
